It’s a busy time here in the Sinfonia Cymru office at the moment!
We’re very happy that our first Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign was successful. Our musicians raised money towards The Mercury Project, our summer concert series which will be taking place in June featuring new arrangements by Vlad Maistorovici of classic Queen songs. The campaign ended last week, with donations from 68 fantastic backers. It was very exciting to see people getting behind the campaign and getting excited about The Mercury Project!

Our first orchestral series of 2016 takes place next week, with new Guest Leader Benjamin Baker and Principal Conductor Gareth Jones. The orchestra will be playing a lively mix of Stravinsky, Beethoven and Mozart in Cardiff, Pontyberem, Newport and Mold, starting in Cardiff on Thursday 17th March. Head over to our What’s On page for more details and to buy tickets.
A group of our musicians are currently out and about in Mid Wales, doing some wonderful educational work with Sam Glazer and Mid Wales Music Trust based on The Tempest. They’re working with school children across Powys, helping them to write and perform their own songs, and will be taking part in some special performances of The Tempest for school audiences in Brecon, Builth Wells and Newtown next week. We had a sneaky listen to a few of the songs yesterday and they sound amazing! Well done all! This will be followed by an interactive family concert at Theatr Hafren on 17th March – visit our What’s On page for information about buying tickets.

And finally we have our lovely new website! We’re very pleased with it, so take a look around and keep watching for lots more exciting content soon!
